Mosjøen, Helgeland's oldest town, lies at the foot of Øyfjellet, where the Vefsna and Skjerva rivers meet and flow into Vefsnfjord. The town is known for its music scene and café life, the historic Sjøgata street lined with 19th-century wooden houses, the Øyfjellgrotta cave, the Helgeland stairs and Via Ferrata up Øyfjellet, and the zip line that sends people soaring through the air. The town has a beach and superb hiking areas nearby. Mosjøen offers a wide selection of good restaurants and charming cafés, most of them on or near Sjøgata Street.
