"The lady of the house, Aud Melås, gave up a promising career at a successful high-tech company (and previously as a manager at a Japanese commercial bank) in the United States to start a new business in a fjord-side village on one of the arms of the Sognefjord. The couple saw the potential of investing in tradition, culture and quality oriented tourism. Accompanying them on their journey back to their roots was the latest incarnation of Ægir himself - the brewer and bartender of the Viking gods - her husband Evan Lewis, with his brewing diploma from the Scandinavian Brewing School in Copenhagen.
The journey that led to the creation of a microbrewery, banquet hall and hotel (the last of which opened on June 20, 2008) began when the Leikanger businesswoman and bank manager, not yet a beer enthusiast and rather stuffy - high heels, bun and all - met Evan Lewis, a long-haired musician and brewer from Rochester, New York. VIKING INSPIRED BREWERY IN FLÅM
Ægir is our own brewery that opened in 2007 and is now known as one of the best craft breweries in Norway. Ægir beer is world class and has won gold, silver and bronze medals in international competitions. It all started with beer, but we don't stop there. We now also produce our own aquavit, gin, vodka, tequila and mead!
Ægir BrewPub is part of the Flåmsbrygga cluster, located on Flåm harbor, and is one of the biggest attractions in the area. The building is inspired by Norse mythology and is reminiscent of a stave church. Inside, you'll find driftwood walls, dragon heads and a fireplace that exudes warmth and comfort, with a chimney that stretches 9 meters across the middle of the two floors. Sit on a furry rug by the open fire and enjoy the aroma and flavor!
The pub is on the first floor and the restaurant is on the second floor. There are small tables and long tables for up to 12 people. It's the perfect place for a romantic dinner for two, to meet up with friends or for a work outing.
