Read moreThe mission was founded between 1853 and 1860 by Marists who had originally settled in Balade, on the northern part of the eastern coast. The church was built in 1889 and, even if the beach itself is not extraordinary, the setting is really pretty, set in the middle of a profusion of greenery and plantations: bananas, coffee, flowers, coconut trees, papayas, manioc, taro... It is a good way to see if you recognize the Caledonian flora. An interesting visit from a spiritual point of view as well as a historical one because of the sad history attached to the place.
