Bagan is located 144 km southwest of Mandalay, on the east bank of Ayeyarwady, like most former Burmese capitals. Photogenic and magical, Bagan became the tourist heart of Burma, with a site of 42 km 2 with approximately 3,000 temples and pagoda dating from the eleventh and thirteenth centuries. Many are unfortunately restored, but the place is magical. It can be accessed by all means of transport except rail. Since 1990 and the forced displacement of the village of Bagan from the tourist site to the new village of Thiripitsaya (also called New Bagan), Bagan dies at every sunset. Only three luxury hotels continue to live, ideally located on the Ayeyarwady shore and in the first place for the awakening of pagoda. At the extreme south of the site, New Bagan quickly developed, and its inhabitants seem to have found a compensation for their forced relocation in the hotel. There are many small hotels, cheap hostels and restaurants. Twenty minutes by bike and eight kilometers north of Old Bagan, Nyaung-Oo is the most central and best-located village in the area of infrastructure. Here you will find the New Bagan in cheap hotels and restaurants. This is the right starting point for bikes on the entire site. Myin Ka Ba, the small town between Nyaung Oo and Old Bagan, also offers good points of fall in discount and cheap accommodation.
