KAUNGHMUDAW PAGODA
It was built in 1636 by King Thalun on the model of the Mahacedi pagoda in Sri Lanka. Revered by many, it houses a relic of Buddha's tooth brought back from Sri Lanka. From the outside, it is especially noteworthy for its gigantic dome, 46 m high, in the shape of a nipple, perfect breast. On the pagoda forecourt are details of the pagoda's construction. This site also hosts the nat, represented in niches surrounding the zedi. On the day of the full moon of Thadingyunt, the 812 photophores dug into the base of the zedi are illuminated.
