The first floor of the house is dedicated to the memory of its founder, who set up a school for underprivileged children within its walls.
Now blessed, Julie Postel is still known as Saint Mary Magdalene. A local child, Julie Postel was born the daughter of a tailor on November 28, 1756. She was sent to the Benedictine nuns in Valognes and returned to her native town in 1776. The first floor is dedicated to the memory of their founder, who created a school for poor children within these walls. Julie Postel also founded the boarding school for young girls in Cherbourg. She died on July 16, 1846.
