Bordering Angola along the Kwando River and a small part of Namibia to the south, it is thethird largest park in the country, covering 5,000 km² isolated in the extreme southwest of the country. It remains however far from the attention of the tourists. This is a pity, because the park is home to some interesting species, including elephants, Angola giraffes (an endemic subspecies), zebras and antelopes, including the very rare black hippotrague. A few lions, hyenas and leopards have also been reported. Unfortunately, these animals are few in number, having suffered greatly from poaching during Angola's civil war.Kavango Zambezi National Park, or KAZA. Angola, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe have created a large transboundary park, KAZA. Like other such parks in southern Africa, this protected area allows for the free movement of wildlife in the Okavango and Upper Zambezi ecosystems. In particular, a corridor for elephants, too numerous in the famous Chobe Park in Botswana, which are already beginning to repopulate the Sioma Ngwezi Park. Pachyderms that can once again follow natural migration patterns.
