Erected on the heights northwest of the city, this imposing monument was built in 1979 in honour of those who fought for the independence of Laos. It is located at the crossroads of the two main arteries. The structure has a somewhat strange diamond shape. Not far away is Wat Pho Xay, or Wat Pho Xaysanalam, the only temple in the city. If it is not worth the trip alone, this small vat is however home to beautiful murals.
