The name of this tiny village can also be written Boun Taï. This small village of 3,500 inhabitants is surrounded by beautiful landscapes of green hills and rice fields on the banks of the Nam Boun. Bountai is about 5 hours by bus from Udomxay. The place is a convenient stopover to cut the long bus ride to Phongsali (9 to 10 hours in total). Buses to Oudomxay leave in the morning, around 8:30 am, arrival around 2 pm; count 60 000 kips. To Phongsali, departure around 9am (bus coming from Vientiane, it stops about 10 minutes so don't miss it), arrival around 1pm; count 35 000 kips.
