Travel Guide Yarim

It is one of Yemen's highest cities (2 500 metres). On the small road that was twisted on the mountain to achieve it, it is only cacti and cactées. Sometimes small herds of sheep cut the road. It should be noted that there is an archaeological site in Yarim and that in the past the city was a major market place for the region.This was where Peter Forsskal, head of the Danish scientific expedition (1761-1767), attended by Carsten Niebuhr, the only survivor of the mission. Niebuhr wrote a long detailed report on his return. The story of the expedition is found in the book of Thorkild Hansen (death in Arabia) published in 1982.
