Built in the Rococo style, the castle became the haven of Wilhelmine's daughter, Duchess Elisabeth Friederike Sophie, in the 18th century. This Bayreuth-born princess had married the Duke of Württemberg. Very unhappy in her marriage, she left Stuttgart to return to her native region. The marriage was not dissolved, but Elisabeth Friederike Sophie succeeded in gaining financial independence and inherited the castle in 1763 on the death of her father. She refurbished it according to her taste and made it her home.
