A Romanesque church, best known for its splendid north portal.
The monastery of St James was founded by Irish Benedictine monks at the end of the 11th century. The church known as the "Church of the Scotsmen" is a little more recent since it was built in 1183, to be reworked in the 19th century in the neo-Romanesque style. The most precious part of the church is its Romanesque portal which forms the northern entrance to the church, so precious that it is protected by a glass cage. You will have to use your imagination: in the Middle Ages, all the statues in the portal were coloured, gilded or silvered.
