The train and the road from Nampula to Cuamba are certainly its main interests, as well as being on the road to Malawi (border town of Mandimba). In this quiet town of about 50,000 inhabitants, all the activity is concentrated at the train station, when the trains arrive. Cuamba is one of the main stations on the Nacala railroad, which runs to Malawi. Another train leaves Cuamba for Lichinga. The spectacle is worth seeing both on the street side, where merchants and onlookers crowd together in a great hubbub, and on the track side, where a crowd of porters unloads wagons.
