Discover MAPUTO

"Culture is a sun that never sets," wrote Samora Machel, father of the nation, resistance fighter and first president of Mozambique since the country's independence on 25 June 1975. This phrase still resonates in the streets of Maputo. In the south of the country, the capital has 2 million inhabitants. At the bend of its wide and long avenues, astonishing modernist buildings from colonial times resist time. The policy of renovating rather than destroying historic buildings gives the city a unique, albeit very dilapidated, architectural character. In Maputo, there are the beautiful facades that you see, but above all there are the small secret courtyards. The Independence Square is a real focal point of the center, which has few monuments and museums to visit. The lower town and the upper town are both pleasant neighborhoods to eat by the sea or have a drink.
