This could be your chance to discover the island's gastronomic specialty: modje, a kid stew simmered with potatoes, manioc, yams, pumpkin, onions, cereals and rice. Fish and seafood, meanwhile, form the basis of the islanders' diet, and no doubt you'll find them on offer at this restaurant. Grogue de São Nicolau is a popular digestive, so be sure to try it!

In the center of town, the Sodade is a pleasant spot near a public garden facing a dry river, ideal for a drink or a break during the day. There's no local cuisine here, but rather food that young people are particularly fond of: hamburgers, crepes and pizza. Special mention for the francesinha, Cape Verde's favorite hearty sandwich.
