The Benoliel Jewish Cemetery is considered a heritage preserving the Jewish memory in Cape Verde
Belonging to a family from the Jewish community who fled persecution in Morocco in the mid-19th century, the graves of Abraham and Esther Benoliel can be seen right next to the Marina Club. Despite several attempts to remove them, they remain where they were. The deceased were not allowed access to the communal cemetery, and there is also the grave of an Englishwoman who died of yellow fever during an epidemic on the island. This place steeped in history is considered to be a heritage preserving Jewish memory in Cape Verde.
