VATNSHELLIR CELLAR

Follow the path of an untouched lava flow, about 35 m underground, to see the amazing colours of the formations while listening to the guides tell the local legends and their trolls; a journey to the centre of the earth not to be read, but to be experienced! Because yes, this cave inspired Jules Vernes for his famous Journey to the Center of the Earth! But it is also an 8,000 year old cave, only open to the public since 2011, located in the Snæfellsjökull National Park, about 10 minutes drive west of Hellnar (road 574).
