Hornstrandir is one of the country's most beautiful hikers. For 4 or 5 days, you'll feel like you're discovering distant, sorry and forgotten fjords. just a magic journey and out of time that you will never forget! The most common course is that of the "Corne Royale" (Hornsleid) which allows to admire all the unavoidable views of the reserve. The main steps are the following.

Day 1. Take the boat to Ísafjörður, to Veiðileysufjörður. Pass the pass to the Höfn camp in the Hornvik. Count between 4 and 8 hours.

Day 2. Take the day to admire the stunning Hornbjarg cliff, more than 500 m away, and then return to sleep at the camping a second night.

Day 3. Wake up in good morning to cross the Col and join Hlöðuvik. Take about 6 hours.

Day 4. Connect Hlöðuvik to Hesteyri via Kjaransvíkurskarð Pass and Hesteyrarbrunir. Take about 8 hours. Abandoned in the last century, you will find in this village a coffee, but also a small port where to take back your boat to Ísafjörður. You can plant your tent in the campsite if your ferry arrives only the next day and enjoy it to visit the surroundings, including the remains of an ancient whale factory.

Two days course. It is perfectly possible, for the most pressing and the least sporty, to only go to explore the Hornstrandir over two days. A classic route is to simply join Hornvik, spend one night or two, then join Lonafjörður to take the return boat. this march takes 6 to 7 hours. The West Tours and Borea agencies offer one day excursions. find out directly from them. Conversely, for the most motivated, it is perfectly possible to stay much longer on the reserve by borrowing even more wild trails. Contact the tourist offices.

Be careful, always plan your food. Please note that, throughout the coast, shelters are arranged in case of emergency (equipped with radios). We strongly recommend that you learn about weather conditions (July being the best time) before leaving but also with a very good map, as recent as possible. A serious organization coupled with good equipment and suitable equipment.
