Hills of ten particular aspects, formed by gigantic landslides, located near the road 1
Here's something you don't often see: hills by the dozen! In this valley just off Route 1, you can admire a cluster of peculiar-looking hills stretching across the Vatnsdalur valley. They were probably formed by a gigantic landslide on the flanks of Mount Víðidalsfjall. The three mounds to the north of the road, called Thrístapar, form the site of Iceland's last capital executions. The site is well worth a visit, and is marked by a memorial.
