From the Vatnsnes peninsula, on a clear day, you can see the jagged coastline of the Western Fjords - enough to make you want to explore this region! The small, well-maintained 711 track follows the peninsular coastline. This is the land of the Vatnsdæla Saga. This is also where Iceland's last capital execution took place. If you like to observe marine life, the peninsula is renowned for being the island's largest seal colony. You can observe them in particular at Illugastaðir, or choose to admire the photogenic Hvítserkur rock (there's a parking lot nearby).
