HAFNARHÓLMI
A protected site with an observation platform, an excellent address to observe Icelandic birds.
If you're interested in Icelandic birdwatching, this is the place for you! It's a long and somewhat monotonous drive from Egilsstadir, but Hafnarhólmi is a protected area where you can see numerous puffins, eiders, kittiwakes and other seabirds up close, from a viewing platform accessible via a stairway. Most of them arrive in mid-April and leave in mid-August. Until the turn of the century, there were around twenty farms here. Today, they're all deserted.
