A protected site with an observation platform, an excellent address to observe Icelandic birds.

If you want to watch Icelandic birds, you will be delighted here! Hafnarhólmi is a protected area where you can see many puffins, eiders, kittiwakes and other seabirds up close from a viewing platform accessible by stairs. Most of them arrive in mid-April and leave in mid-August. Along the coast from Borgarfjörður there are several well-protected bays. There were about 20 farms here until the turn of the century. Today they are all deserted.
