The breakfast for 7,000ISK for two people and was not as great as supposed to be to satisfy the price... Disappointed…

Lovely Hotel, friendly staffs, good service, room was clean, great breakfast, 4 starts from us because inside our room was very warm and couldn't find out how to turn the heat off, so we have to keep the window open all night, but we happy to stay here! Thanks from Canada!

We stayed in Reykjavik, Borgarnes, and Selfoss besides Kirkjubæjarklaustur. This was our favorite hotel. The room was the most spacious, clean, and the most organization we'd had. The location is within a village, so not a lot to do, but outside of the capital, there isn't much to do outside your hotel regardless. But we appreciated the remoteness of the hotel because it was easy to escape the light pollution to hunt the Northern Lights. The staff was by far the most helpful and attentive and kind out of anyone we'd experienced. Emilio and Sarah in the restaurant and bar were GREAT. They were working so hard. Shout out to them and the rest of the staff for keeping everything operational and fluid even though I was told they were understaffed and receiving overflow from other location that had just closed for the season. Great aesthetic, quiet, and well-kept. The food the hotel serves for dinner was among the best we'd had the whole time we'd stayed in Iceland. The Atlantic Char and Cod were *chef's kiss*. Overall, a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in that area!

We didn't stay at the hotel but stopped to eat at the restaurant. It was probably the best meal we had in Iceland. Like literally licked the plates clean.

This was the largest & most spacious rooms we had in the country of Iceland. The staff was extremely helpful & very kind. The built-in restaurant was better than a majority of the stand-alone restaurants around the country as well. Emilio was the greatest host, bartender, waiter, & table-busser (yes, all at the same time) of any employee in Iceland (and America). I would highly recommend a visit if you’re traveling through Kirkjubæjarklaustur!

Pros: Nice hotel and rooms in general. Great breakfast. Very kind and helpful staff.

Cons: Almost unusably slow Wi-Fi. Showers leak out all over the bathroom floor even with doors fully closed.

Chose to stay here on my way back to Reykjavik. Booked too late so there’s nothing available east of here. Clean room but dated fixtures, alright passing through for the night. However they were very helpful & quick with my laundry and very reasonable prices.

This is not really a review of the hotel, but the hotel restaurant. Most people are here to look at hotel reviews so I'll give a quick summary of our lovely experience before getting to the meat of it.

A year ago-ish my fiancée and I stayed here overnight and enjoyed a clean comfortable room, excellent and professional service, and the stunning and peaceful area of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. We told them that we were recently engaged and they surprised us with two small bottles of champagne and some little chocolates. The breakfast was delicious and more satisfying and diverse than other hotels, too.

I was, and am, impressed with how fancy everything felt thanks to the staff's care and mannerisms and will definitely come back to stay overnight, though we didn't this most recent time.

So onto the real reason for my five stars, the Hotel Klaustur Restaurant.

A year ago we booked a table for dinner. My fiancée ordered the hamburger and I ordered the char. No big deal. My dinner was delicious and I cleaned my plate with some difficulty because their pre-dinner fresh baked bread and whipped butter on a stone was so good I had trouble stopping myself. Okay, pretty good!

Except he said then, and continued saying for the next year and a half, that it was the BEST hamburger he's EVER EATEN. EVER. It's not hyperbole. He didn't shut up about it, I say lovingly. We went to other places in Reykjavík after and tried their burgers and it was the same verdict every time: the Hotel Klaustur Restaurant burger was THE BEST.

It haunted me because the hotel is a four hour drive from my home in Reykjavík, but I assured him we'd go back one day, even if just for the food.

Last night, we did just that. We went on a day trip all the way along the south coast, with no car snacks, and arrived at the hotel restaurant just in time for our reservation, hungry and me a little anxious that the food had changed or wouldn't live up to his remembered hype.

I ordered the lamb and he the burger, and while we waited they brought us some fresh baked bread and whipped date butter on a stone sprinkled with sea salt and it was just as good as we remembered if not better. The staff were very professional and maybe a little amused that we didn't actually have a hotel room there and just came for the food. I tried not to eat too much bread this time with the thought that I might take some with us when we left.

The moment of truth came. My plate was gorgeous, the lamb succulent and tender and perfectly cooked, the potatoes and pearl onions a delightful accompaniment. His humble burger plate was similar to how we remembered, with crunchy double-fried french fries and the burger with sweet pickled onions and kimchi, smelling like the mana of heaven.

The first bite he took, I swear he was going to cry. It was PERFECT, exactly like he remembered though the bread was a bit smaller this time. With juices dripping into his plate and a smile like a man who'd achieved true happiness, I almost got a little jealous for the hamburger because I don't think he's ever looked at me like that as blissfully happy as we are together.

I tasted it too and darn if he wasn't onto something. We shared our food and slowly finished, our long road trip fully worth it, and gave many compliments to the server for the chef. With no room for dessert, I nonetheless requested some of that incredible bread to go, and not only did they give us some free of charge but also a little plastic bowl of that whipped butter. My husband's only regret was that he ate it so quickly. Maybe next time we'll get one to-go as well and hope it's still good after our long road trip back to the city.

I absolutely would come back again even for just the food, and highly recommend the hotel itself to anyone wanting a quiet, scenic location for their vacation. Just make sure you eat at the restaurant too.

Was a lovely place to stay that had stores in walking distance and was able to take a nice stroll in the evening. Rooms were nice if not a little small and the restaurant had plenty of lactose free options for myself. Would stay here again.

This was one of the best hotels we stayed in during a week in Iceland. The rooms and decor are simple and basic but what made it so enjoyable were the people and services. The bar in particular was very welcoming with a staff that clearly understand and emphasize customer service. They were training a new employee and you could tell from the way they treated and instructed her that both the customers and employees are the point of emphasis.

We were there last February. Simple room but more than what we needed. Staff was lovely and they were ringing us during the night when nothern lights were visible. Breakfast was nice and they had a lot of options gluten-free. A bit pricey but except that, I can only recommend.
