Great if you like being in the middle of nowhere to see the sights of South Iceland and the Aurora Borealis' on a cloud free night.

Hotel Fosshotel Nupar kalfafell is a hidden gem amidst nature's beauty, offering a serene escape surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. The well-appointed rooms and prime location provide the perfect setting for witnessing the mesmerizing northern lights. Additionally, the scrumptious breakfast spread and the genuine warmth of the staff elevate the stay, creating unforgettable memories for those seeking tranquility in the heart of nature.
During our visit, we experienced exceptional service from the front desk staff, especially during the night shift. When a minor issue arose with our room's lights, a staff member promptly sprang into action, demonstrating remarkable dedication and efficiency. Moreover, he had resolved our room heater issue when he addressed that our room was not getting heated up as the heater wasn't on, as the temperature outside was freezing. Staff swift response not only resolved the situation but also underscored the hotel's commitment to guest comfort and satisfaction.

Though the triple sharing rooms were smaller in size, the serene location made us forget about any space constraints, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the beauty of our surroundings.
Our stay at Hotel Fosshotel Nupar was nothing short of magical, thanks to its idyllic setting, impeccable service, and unwavering dedication to guest satisfaction.

Superior Double Room

Sadly (for us), because it was winter and we were on a driving holiday, we both arrived and left while it was dark. Therefore, I cannot comment to the setting or surroundings of the hotel but I imagine they were lovely.

The room was great, just as expected and perfectly clean and tidy - it was also a really good size. If you're staying multiple nights or long enough to enjoy sunrise, then I imagine the full height window and door to the outside deck area would be wonderful to enjoy.

Breakfast was okay but relatively limited in selection compared to some hotels. What was offered was nice.

Due to its location in the middle of no-where (a good thing), it's likely you'll have an evening meal here. We opted for the buffet restaurant over the à la carte restaurant and again, it was okay. The food was nice and there was a good selection of meal options to cater to most tastes. The dessert options were quite poor though and were not replenished very often. As with many Icelandic meals, it was very expensive.

We'd love to stay again if we're lucky enough to be in Iceland in the future.

My wife and I stayed here as it was in between 2 locations we were visiting; and we absolutely loved it. So far it’s been our best hotel experience here in Iceland. We don’t understand how it received anything below 5 stars; but we would recommend this to people staying between Vik and headed towards Skaftafell. We were also able to see the northern lights here as it is open land and nothing coming in the way to obstruct views!

Very small rooms but the view and the location are amazing

We had a wonderful experience at the hotel. Matt the receptionist was very helpful and welcoming. He made an effort to chat with us about where we are from and told us all about how he once lived in the UK! We were given a free upgraded room and were able to see the stunning Northern Lights through our window! The location of the hotel is away from all light pollution so a great spot to see the lights. The food was also good in the restaurant and reasonably priced for Iceland.

Well done to the staff

To be frank, part of the low rating comes with the fact that this was the most expensive hotel we stayed at in Iceland at $220 a night. For this price, we were expecting a significantly better experience than what came to be the reality. For one, the entry to the lobby itself was covered in ice and was extremely slippery. The beds were separated when we entered the room when we had specifically asked for them to be combined. Secondly, the bathroom is atrocious and has what could really only be described as a spigot with a shower head shooting down some droplets of water. The toilet is also right next to shower with the only thing separating it being a curtain. There is no barrier so the whole bathroom is GUARANTEED to get soaked. Besides wanting to find something relatively close to Slaftafell, we were really looking forward to sitting out on the patio. Turns out, they didn’t even put in the effort to clear the snow off of it so I spent about half an hour outside clearing enough snow so I could bring out the chair and look at the sky. With that being said, the concierge was extremely helpful and gave us not only a lot of insight into Icelandic trips and adventures but also was very friendly. Also, the lobby area was very nice. If it wasn’t for him and the lobby, I would’ve given this hotel a 1 star review. In summary, it is not worth your money or your stay and the hotel room is essentially trailer park housing. But, the lobby and the concierge were great. Very disappointing from the first fosshotel we stayed at.
