This campsite surrounded by greenery has a sanitary room, accessible to people with reduced mobility

Surrounded by greenery, this campsite offers several useful and interesting facilities. There is dishwashing and meal preparation equipment, a washing machine and tumble dryer, and a new sanitary block with disabled access. You can also have access to electricity and internet, as well as a playground for children. Good to know: the campsite is accessible via the bus line from the capital and is only a few steps from the shops.

Unbelievable... Sarah was quite the irresponsible character at this site and majorly failed to deliver any information.

We arrived at around 9 pm. Unlike other campsites where you may to pay in the morning Sarahs came storming to charge our stay. Worth mentioning this was the only time we ever saw her. Of course she was only interested in charging, but she failed to explain the following:

Kitchen closed
Showers closed and she did not mention or offered token for the showers
No water to refill our van

What was left clear is how desperate for money she was.

AVOID THIS CAMP SITE.

Hvolsvollur ended up being good for night 1 as there were no set expectations from any other prior campsites. It had a small playground that the kids loved, only had a handful of other campers there so it felt private, had simple facilities but included all that was needed, and had open fields to explore (including a horse pasture). I could see it being pretty crammed if it was a full campsite but it worked for our time. It really was beautiful at this campsite. The big bummer was that we couldn’t pay online and we were woken up the next morning by a loud banging on our campervan door (we were trying to sleep in to reset with our jet lag and after our full time in Iceland no other campsites did this).
