Refuge located at 1 100 m of altitude, has a capacity of 52 people

This refuge at 1,100 m altitude, with a capacity of 52 people, is surely one of the most hostile you'll find on your route. There are no showers or hot water, and comfort is basic. When it comes to camping, many prefer to continue on to the Alftavatn hut, as it can be cold, wet and very windy - not great, but when you've got no choice (some would go so far as to call it desperation!)... Some campers cook using the nearby fumaroles! Clever, but potentially dangerous, so stay safe.
