Hiking with a trail, winding through lava fields and moss-covered volcanic domes, in Hveravellir

From the site, it's a 3 to 4 hour round trip hike. The trail winds through lava fields and moss-covered volcanic domes. After the peat farm, a sign "Eyvindarhellir" indicates an underground shelter. Further on, near a volcanic dome, a junction marks the continuation of the walk to Þjófadalir or back to Hveravellir. The hike continues on the other trail that goes back to Hveravellir. An area of fumaroles dotted with sulphur and fluorescent green vegetation overlooks the geothermal area.
