Lake in the heart of downtown, representing more than just an obligatory passageway between the center and the university district
The Tjörnin, a small lake right in the center of town, acts as a magnet for Icelanders and tourists alike. It's much more than an obligatory stopover between the city center and the university district. The most beautiful mansions in the old town surround it, and the changing weather makes it shiny, metallic or dark. Its benches invite long moments of contemplation and observation of the many Icelandic birds that frequent its banks and islets. In winter, when it's cold enough, it can also be used as an ice rink!
