Cemetery to see the French square reserved for the fishermen who disappeared off Iceland
When you stop off at Lake Tjörnin, don't hesitate to climb up to this cemetery (also known as Hólavallagarður). In use since 1838, it has long been the capital's most densely wooded area, and remains a place of a certain quietude. In winter, some graves are decorated sparingly with garlands and lights. You'll also see the French square reserved for the fishermen who disappeared off Iceland, when Breton ships crossed the North Atlantic to fish for cod off the Icelandic coast.
