Juliette's house which presents thousands of small words of love written and engraved on its walls.

Legend has it that this is the balcony of Shakespeare's heroine Juliet. However, Romeo and Juliet are fictional characters, and Shakespeare never visited Verona! What's more, the story that inspired him was taken from a text by Luigi Da Porto, a Vicenza author, who set the action in Montecchio Maggiore, not Verona.

Be that as it may, millions of visitors and lovers flock to Juliet's windows every year, attracted by this residence known as "del Cappello" (Italian for hat, as evidenced by the sculpture on its pediment). In the 13th century, it belonged to the dal Cappello family, sometimes associated with the dal Cappello or Capuleti, whose most bitter enemy was the Monticoli or Montecchi family. It was only in the 19th century that the house was attributed to Juliette.

Restored between 1930 and 1940, a visit to Casa di Giulietta is especially worthwhile for its famous balcony, ideal for re-enacting romantic scenes from Romeo and Juliet. Since late 2019, the walls of the courtyard, once covered with hundreds of written or engraved words of love, have been cleaned, and a sign at the entrance reminds visitors that it is now forbidden to write there. Books are available for lovers to leave their messages.

Finally, at the far end of the courtyard, where access is free, the statue of Juliette remains a must-see: touching her right breast is said to bring good luck in love. But be warned, you'll often have to wait your turn to immortalize the moment!

There are dozens of balcony with Verona, are all worth of Giuletta but veiled, the romantic history influences the imagination of visitors. Many people, normal. Not to go in Verona only for this small square...
