WHITE SANDS BEACH

Beautiful beach with fine, clear sand, transparent turquoise water, sailboats and abundant wildlife.
This beach is considered the most beautiful in the country. You can get there by passing by the airfield. The coast is very indented here and small creeks shelter beautiful stretches of sand. The region is so beautiful that the academician Jean-François Deniau had a house built there where, it is said, many French personalities came to visit. Let's remember that Mr. Deniau is the author of Tadjourah, a book which is not really about the city but which tells the attachment of the writer to this place.
The biggest beach on this stretch of coast is the Sables Blancs, below a cliff of black rock. The sand is particularly fine and clear, and goes down gently to the transparent and turquoise waters of the Gulf of Tadjourah. A hotel has taken up residence there. Farniente, beach sports (volleyball, petanque on the sand), water sports, snorkeling above the nearby corals, swimming are on the program. The place is very popular with expats. Some sailboats or speedboats sometimes come to anchor there. You can spend one or more nights there and eat. The coral is close and divers will discover interesting sea beds. From a boat, between 5 and 30 meters deep, you can admire an abundant fauna: between clown fish and colorful lobsters. But with just fins, mask and snorkel, you can already admire the beautiful fish and coral, just a few fathoms from the beach. An idyllic spot.
