THE CERNE ABBAS GIANT
North of Dorchester, the Cerne Abbas Giant is a representation of a human figure carved into the chalk hillside near the village of the same name. The petroglyph is around 56 meters long, the figure carries a club and is characterized - in addition to its size - by a prominent genitalia... It is thought to date back to 1600, but little is known about why it was created or what it represents. Some see it as a parody of Oliver Cromwell, others as a representation of the god Hercules. It's an unusual curiosity and well worth a visit!
