The interior is as traditional as can be, with dark wood, bric-a-brac and real ales at the counter. The dishes, on the other hand, are drawn from south of the Channel, and include savoury crêpes, beef bourguignon, escargots, entrecôtes frites... or the so-British minted lamb!

But it's the food that really makes the magic happen: The Folly is an excellent, almost gourmet restaurant, with a tempting, well-mastered menu. Options include a mini-cruise, accompanied by a glass of Prosecco, to admire Oxford's sights from the water. The 40-minute cruise is followed by a delicious 3-course meal.
