On 24 July 1823, Maracaibo was the theatre of one of the last battles of the war of Independence. Indeed, despite Triomphe's triumph, all Venezuela had been "released", except for the regions of Puerto Cabello, Coro and Maracaibo. After a 71-day siege, the Republican fleet, part of Colombia and commanded by Admiral Padilla, attacked the troops of the infamous Morales and won! The country was free, if Puerto Cabello remained royalist for a few months still… Today, Maracaibo has very bad reputation: an industrial city producing oil at the wide, dangerous and excessively hot - so many elements that drive the tourist before it even arrives! Since Venezuela has a multitude of other more attractive places we decided not to develop the city. However, for those who visit the city you should spend a few days without bothering you, just for the cultural shows and interesting nightlife offered by a large city. We even find an ice skating arena that contrasts with external 45 ° C! Finally, the Maracuchos are very friendly and open, especially since they don't often have the opportunity to carve a mudflap with a stranger. And if you are there between 10 and 18 November, during the feast of the patron of the city, Señora Señora de Chiquinquirá, you will be entitled to folk dances, circus, cycling races (!), processions and bullfighting.
