SUN TOWER
This ancient fortified gateway bears witness to the town's rich past and is a meeting place for the local population
Built in 1389, this ancient fortified gate is one of the few still standing. In the past, four gates formed the city's protective wall, but the numerous earthquakes in the region took their toll. With its three superimposed levels and glazed tiles, the Chaoyang Tower is reminiscent of Beijing's Tian'anmen Gate, only more modest and older. A testament to the town's rich past, it is a meeting place for the local population, who go about their daily business from here, and offers a lovely view over the city's rooftops.
