VIES VERDES GIRONA
The Vies Verdes, are paths designed for cycling and walking that can be found all over Catalonia
Vies Verdes, or Green ways, are paths designed for both cycling and walking that can be found all over Catalonia, always located in a natural environment. Many of them follow the route of former railroad lines, allowing you to discover previously unknown areas. Accessible to families and the disabled, they are all very well signposted and provide a free and healthy activity, helping to maintain coordination between territories and boost the economy of rural areas. Along the routes, often in former railway stations, you'll find inns, restaurants and bike rental agencies. The Province of Girona offers a number of "Vies Verdes", including : ruta del Ferro i el Carbó (Ripoll-Ogassa, via Sant Joan de les Abadesses), Ruta del Carrilet I (Olot-Girona via the Ter, Brugent and Fluvià rivers), Ruta del Carrilet II (Girona-Sant Feliu de Guíxols, via La Selva and Llagostera) and Ruta del Tren Petit (along the Mediterranean coast). Also worth discovering are the Camí Ral i Ramader de Campdevànol trail (4 km around Ripollès) and the Ruta Termal spa route (15 km between Caldes de Malavella and Cassà de la Selva, in Gironès). These itineraries are managed by Le Consorci de les Vies Verdes de Girona, the local organization responsible for these routes: www.viesverdes.cat as well as the Pirinexus itineraries.
