In mid-March, many towns in the Veneto Dolomites - including the cities of Belluno and Asolo - celebrate the "Brusa la Vecia", a very ancient tradition. To celebrate the end of winter, a puppet in the shape of an old woman (la vecia) is burnt in the public square in front of the whole town. Fairs and traditional markets accompany the event. Shops compete creatively on this occasion to decorate their windows and take part in a competition.
