For opera lovers, but not only. Between velvet and stucco, this legendary theatre has many stories to tell.

One of the most beautiful lyric scenes in the world! It is in this magnificent Venetian opera, first called Opera San Fantìn (named after the campo where it is located), that Verdi created Rigoletto in 1851 and La Traviata, and Visconti shot the opening scene of Senso in 1954. It was also here that Maria Callas made her debut at the age of only 24; her performance of Richard Wagner's Tristan and Isolde opened the door to success. Victim of an arson attack in 1996, it took 8 years of work to rebuild the hall identically, dov'era e com'era (as it was and where it was) according to the motto of the foundation. However, its identical restoration gave rise to several controversies about the way and the cost of the work. On December 14, 2003, at its reopening, illustrious names, including Riccardo Muti and Elthon John, followed one another on its stages during a week of concerts. However, although the acoustics were excellent and all the frescoes in the dressing rooms had been restored, many spectators regretted the patina of the old theatre. This one, dated 1836, was itself a copy of the previous one, which had burned down in 1792; the phoenix is thus eternally reborn from its ashes. Today 174 boxes, 1,100 seats, and a grandiose oval hall of rare elegance, where gold and red blend perfectly, in the pure baroque tradition of the 18th century, make up this mythical place. On the ceiling, a magnificent blue sky is punctuated by a few clouds, where musical cherubs are rising.
