Read moreMany of these colorful shrines are located in Elmina itself. They are a mixture of symbolic and mythical data. There are several in the streets leading to the new bridge before the castle. The Asafo companies are military groups composed of soldiers who also serve the community. Each shrine is dedicated to an Asafo, who expresses the philosophy of the group or demonstrates its superiority over its rivals. It is customary to leave a tip for the person who watches over the place.
