Cemetery erected in 1806 by order of Johannes Petrus Hoogenboom in the center of Elmina, a historic site worth visiting.
It can be found in the center of Elmina, along Dutch Cementry Street. You will also find two Asafo shrines on the same street. Built in 1806 by order of Johannes Petrus Hoogenboom, governor of the Dutch Golg Coast, to house the bodies of settlers, the story goes that he himself was ironically one of the first occupants of this new cemetery. The governor is said to have been murdered following a disagreement with the town's inhabitants.
