BOTANIC GARDENS
The Belfast Botanic Gardens are a veritable institution, in existence since 1828. They are the fruit of a Victorian passion for horticulture and exotic plants in particular, with large beds of green herbs ideal for families and students who regularly come for a stroll. On site: majestic trees, a rose labyrinth, landscaped areas for strolling and enjoying nature... Open-air concerts are also organized. You can also visit the 1839 Palm House, the daring work of Charles Lanyon and Richard Turner. It's an imposing cast-iron and glass greenhouse with a magnificent domed roof under which tropical plants live. It has a charming old-fashioned feel to it, and inside the plants radiate out in a most sympathetically organized jumble. You can also visit Tropical Ravine, a smaller greenhouse of simple design, carefully preserving a collection of old varieties of plants (lilies, orchids, banana trees...) which you discover on an elevated walkway. The Tropical Ravine has recently been completely restored and features new, highly educational panels on flowers, fruit... Ideal for children. A stroll through the botanical gardens is a must in Belfast, whether for a stroll or a lie on the grass. In spring, tulips bloom by the hundreds, coloring the flowerbeds in the most beautiful way.
