Ruined abbey, the park's main religious site, founded in the 15thby a Franciscan monk and featuring a beautiful cloister.

This ruined abbey - also known as Muckross Friary - is the park's main religious site, founded in the 15th century by the Franciscan monk Donal McCarthy Mor. Visitors are impressed by the beauty of its cloister. The well-preserved arcades, one row of which differs from the others, line up in a perfect square, in the open air. A large yew tree, planted right in the middle, seems to invade the space with its branches. The square tower is the only Franciscan tower in Ireland. The community of monks was dispersed in 1652 by Oliver Cromwell's supporters.
