Annie Moore was the first immigrant to enter America via Ellis Island. A statue has been erected in her honor in Cobh.
Annie Moore and her two younger brothers Philipp and Anthony boarded a ship in Cobh harbor on December 20, 1891. Annie Moore was the first person to be admitted to the United States via the Ellis Island emigration center on January1 , 1892. She was 17 years old and "rosy-cheeked", according to the New York Times. This statue, a symbol of successful Irish emigration, was unveiled in 1993. After joining her parents, who had emigrated to New York two years earlier, Annie moved with her family to Texas, where she married.
