Opened in 2000, the Plaza is a modern luxury hotel with 143 high-end rooms, so you'll be spoilt for choice. While everything is impeccable, the whole place is a bit cold and lacks soul, which is a bit disappointing. For example, the hotel's restaurant, the Swea Hof, is topped with a very high glass window and metal beams, making it look like a train station concourse. Still, the hotel has a few things going for it, such as an English pub, the Bishops Arms, with a more casual atmosphere, but also an exercise room and a sauna.

The rooms are all equipped with TV, wi-fi and storage space, but the bathroom is on the landing. Rest assured, there are several, so you'll never have to wait outside the door for the shower to become available. The breakfast is a buffet largely composed of local products, so you can start the day with quality products. A good address.

This pretty white building was a sailor's boarding house in the 19th century and only became a youth hostel in 1996. The reception is very friendly, as is the backyard with its wooden tables and benches at the foot of the Masthugg hill. The rooms are clean and the sanitary facilities are in the hallway. On the first floor, there is a common kitchen and lounge with TV and sofas. There is an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet, and plenty of information about sightseeing in Gothenburg and the surrounding area.
