Nestling at the foot of the mountains, Sibolga is a port on the edge of the Indian Ocean. Apart from sunsets and departure for Nias, the town has little to offer. You'll undoubtedly be harassed by touts for Nias Island, and they'll try to squeeze money out of you any way they can. Remain firm and vigilant. It's worth noting that since the fall in tourism, it's been a little quieter. Sibolga's hotels are drab: neon and Formica, with a little sloppiness on the housekeeping front. There is, however, one very pleasant beach, Pantai Pandan, 11 km from town. The other beach, Pantai Kalangan (for a fee), a few hundred metres from the center, is also ideal for sunbathing. But don't be surprised to see the locals staring at you. Oplets go to the beaches.
