The island's capital, the village stretches along a black sand beach. The entire landscape is dominated by the cone of a volcano that erupts frequently. Although the village is partly built on concrete, the locals still live in paillotes, on stilts or not, sometimes directly on the beach. The village streets are lined with woven mats where hanging fish are drying. You won't see tourists in Lewoleba. Everywhere, you'll be greeted with "hello". It's the only place on the island to be urbanized, and the rest is nature and authenticity on an island that's definitely off the beaten tourist track.
