Indonesia's top historic site. In 1947, Indonesian officials of the Republican government met with Dutch officials to negotiate a treaty of cooperation. An agreement was signed, but very quickly challenged by both sides. The Dutch then embarked on police operations to suppress the challenges until 1949, the date of Indonesia's Independence.
