SØNDERBORG CASTLE (SØNDERBORG SLOT)

It is in this imposing medieval fortress built in the middle of the 12th century, that King Christian II was imprisoned. Deposed by the Danish nobility who elected Frederik I in his place in 1523, after having taken refuge in the Netherlands, he was locked up for life in this castle. Eckersberg's paintings; Schleswig-Holstein museum which allows a better understanding of the violence of the battles and the destruction suffered by the city; Renaissance chapel decorated by Queen Dorothea - end of the 16th century.
