This Dutch Renaissance palace in Hillerød is one of the largest and most beautiful castles in Scandinavia.
Three islets on a lake and an impressive red-brick castle decorated with sandstone ornaments. Frederiksborg Slot was built between 1600 and 1620 at the request of Christian IV, on the foundations of a former manor house. This masterpiece of Dutch Renaissance architecture came to symbolize the power of the Danish monarchy. Kings were crowned in the palatine chapel, grandiose with its ebony and marquetry decor.
Note the organ (1610) by Compelius and the many coats of arms of the great European families. The castle, abandoned in favor of the more convenient Fredensborg (9 km away), was devastated by fire in 1859. Fortunately, Carl Jacobsen financed most of the restoration work, including that of the Grand Salon above the chapel (superb carved wooden ceiling, impressive marble fireplace, musicians' gallery). He also furnished the rooms with period furniture.
Since 1882,the National History Museum has retraced 500 years of Danish political life, from the 16th century to the present day. This department, linked to the Carlsberg Foundation, houses the royal collections (furniture, paintings, objects) on three floors of the King's wing and the Princess's wing, and exhibits Denmark's most important portrait collection. Note several paintings by Hyacinthe Rigaud, the famous Versailles painter. Finally, a visit to the gardens adds a touch of nature to your visit.

Built on three small islands in the Slotssøen at Hillerød, Frederiksborg Castle is a major architectural and historical landmark in Denmark. Today, the castle is home to the National History Museum, which traces five centuries through a vast collection of portraits, historical works, furniture and decorative art. It also houses the National Portrait Gallery, depicting Danish kings, noblemen, artists, politicians and sports figures. Bordered by several lakes, the castle is surrounded by a vast park featuring a Baroque garden, a landscape garden and various relaxation areas. The tour retraces the major figures and events in Danish history. The itinerary includes the castle church, the knights' hall, the audience room and several richly decorated salons. In addition to the exhibitions, visitors can stroll through the gardens or take an excursion on the lake. Temporary exhibitions regularly complement the permanent offering, at the crossroads of history, nature and architecture. Ne cesse de surprendre
Vous vous garez au parking du château et allez le visiter. Au fond du parking il y a un boîtier plus que discret qui en fait est un péage. Rien ne l'indique. Dès que vous êtes sorti de la voiture, un employé passe et vous colle une amende de 65 euros.
C'est une honte ! Cet endroit est à éviter.
Vous aurez là un aperçu de la considération danoise pour les touristes.

Le château est situé à la campagne, dans une petite ville calme et tranquille au bord de l'eau. C'est un château énorme et impressionnant !
Nous avons visité l'intérieur qui était beaucoup plus grand que prévu. Il y a au moins 2 ou 3 étages avec BEAUCOUP de pièces à voir. A la fin, nous étions un peu perdus et nous nous demandions si nous avions déjà visité ces pièces ou non haha.
Nous avons également visité les jardins, mais pas beaucoup car nous n'avions pas assez de temps. Mais par une belle journée ensoleillée, les jardins sont très agréables !
