Beautiful park in the Ipiranga district, home to an imposing Monumento à Independência do Brasil and a zoological museum
This beautiful park, inaugurated in 1988, is located in the neighbourhood of Ipiranga, a well-known river since it was here that Dom Pedro I, libertador and first emperor of Brazil, proclaimed the country's independence in 1822, an episode that has become famous as the "Ipiranga cry". The park bears his name and, in addition to the Ipiranga stream, you can admire the imposing Monumento à Independência do Brasil - whose crypt contains the remains of Dom Pedro - the vast Museu do Ipiranga on the history of the country and the small Casa do Grito. There is also a zoological museum to the south.
